Prof. Dr. Gertrude Hirsch Hadorn

Gertrude Hirsch Hadorn has been titular professor at ETH Zurich since 2006. Born in 1953, she received a PhD in educational sciences at the University of Zurich in 1989, having worked as a research fellow at the Educational Department of the Canton of Zurich from 1982 to 1988. She joined the Department of Environmental Systems Science (D-USYS) as a senior scientist in 1990 with the task to integrate social sciences and humanities into the curriculum. Simultaneously, she completed her habilitation on „Nature and Ethics in the Debates on the Environment“ at the Philosophy Department at the University of Konstanz in 1998, and was a private lecturer in philosophy there until 2006. She acted for the chair in ethics at the University of Göttingen in 2000, and, in 2009, she was guest professor at the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies (IFF), Alpen-Adria-University Klagenfurt-Graz-Vienna in Vienna. Her research addresses the philosophy of environmental sciences and of sustainability research (with a focus on research on land use and climate change) as well as environmental ethics and ethics of science.
