The Group

In research and teaching, we bridge the gap between science and decision making by analysing environmental problems and issues for sustainable development from both the perspectives of philosophy of science and environmental ethics. In order to accomplish this and contribute to the department’s mission, we closely collaborate within D-USYS with scientists working typically in the fields of climate change, land-use, environmental policy, and decision making.

Our teaching enhances students’ analytical competence and understanding of philosophical and ethical aspects of environmental problems and environmental science. In research, an important goal is to understand the challenges that arise when science is expected to be reliable, useful and effective in dealing with complex real-world problems.
